OPTOmize your prospects!

A snapshot of optics in Taiwan
As the electronics and communications industries speed further into the Digital Age, it's easy to see the potential the optical sector in particular holds in store. Taiwan's contribution to the photonics industry is huge, with production of many products ranked in the top three worldwide and bearing all the qualities that make us a consistent front-runner. From sourcing parts to drawing up and building world-beating new designs, Taiwan offers all the tools for success, and TaipeiOpto is the place to stock up for next year and beyond.

Taiwan is an innovator and a leader in the field of photonics, and for good reason: if it's optical, Taiwan designs and produces it, and makes it very well. According to the Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA), Taiwan's photonics industry production value is estimated to exceed US$25 billion in 2004, with production of LED packaging, STN/TFT-LCD panels, CD/DVD-ROM machines, CD-R/DVD-R blank media, and digital cameras ranking solidly in the world's top three. The island is a leader in devices that read and write optical media, with optical storage such as CD, MD, MO and DVD writers and readers accounting for nearly one-third of Taiwan's photonics exports. Top names like Lite-On and BenQ keep pushing the envelope in this sector with faster and more accurate DVD-R burners, while Ritek satisfies the robust demand for quality blank media. Overall, the outlook is bright for the local photonics industry, with healthy growth expected to continue to the tune of 30% in 2004, and continued expansion averaging more than 20% over the next three years.

Seeing is believing
TaipeiOpto set records for participation in 2004, with 295 booths from nearly 100 leading firms from Taiwan and around the world playing to a keen audience of over 16,000 visitors. Last year's buyers, led by top decision-makers in management, purchasing, and sales/marketing, checked out first hand everything from optical fiber components, lasers and optoelectronics components to lightning-fast DVD-R burners, LCD projectors and TVs, and flat panel displays. They even got to preview an incredible yet cost-effective night vision infrared camera that cuts through darkness with amazing ease. Packed with keynote speeches and insightful seminar topics ranging from nanotechnology to optical storage, TaipeiOpto offers buyers plenty of panoramic perspective on industry trends, and zoom-like views of the latest products that power the continued growth of this exciting industry.
